This kahlua milkshake, also known as a Dom Pedro is double thick, creamy and boozy. Laced with coffee liqueur and topped with dark chocolate.
A Kahlua milkshake, or as we call it in South Africa, a Kahlua Dom Pedro, is a delicious ice cream cocktail.
It’s a South African favorite found on most restaurant menus and it’s served exactly like this, with short straws and finely grated chocolate on top. It can be made with Kahlua or whiskey and sometimes with Amarula, a creamy South African liqueur (not vegan)
The Kahlua version is by far the best though because Kahlua is just so damn good. I mean, coffee liqueur mixed with ice cream, you can see the appeal right?
So I made a vegan version of a Kahlua Dom Pedro and enjoyed every last sip of it!
It’s too easy – just 4 ingredients including the grated chocolate on top!
This is a perfect dessert for a celebration of any kind. It’s the perfect dessert / cocktail combination to end off the night.
Jaye and I are both big fans of Kahlua anyway, we’re very partial to a Black Russian (Kahlua mixed with vodka) not to mention a fabulous Kahlua parfait.

Hi Alison
Just got this awesome recipe and can’t wait to try but where do I buy coconut cream? Thanks
Alison Andrews says
Usually in the same section of the store as you would find coconut milk. You buy it in cans usually but occasionally in cartons. It’s the creamier version of coconut milk. However, if all you can find is cans of coconut milk (full fat) that will also work fine in this recipe.

Hi Alison, happy new year to you. Thanks you so much for all the amazing recipes you share with everyone. I made the kahlua drink today and honestly I was so impressed. Since becoming vegan three years ago I’ve missed not having a baileys, then I came across your kahlua recipe and it’s awesome, just like baileys. You are so kind to share your wonderful recipes. Cheers, love Brenda
