This vegan coffee smoothie is smooth and creamy and takes 5 minutes to make. Perfect for when you want breakfast and coffee in one.
This vegan coffee smoothie is soooo delicious.
It’s perfect for summer mornings when you want your coffee fix but don’t want hot drinks!
And yes, you could have a vegan iced coffee, which is a great idea too, but what if you want your coffee and your breakfast in one?
Then you want this shake!
It’s amazingly easy to make this, 5 super simple ingredients, a quick blend in the blender and you have your breakfast smoothie and coffee in one go.
How To Make A Vegan Coffee Smoothie
You will find full instructions and measurements in the recipe card at the bottom of the post. This is a summary of the process to go along with the process photos.
- Add coconut milk, frozen bananas, almond butter, instant espresso powder and maple syrup to your blender jug.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour into glasses and serve.
Ingredient Notes
Frozen bananas. The only thing you need to prepare in advance is frozen bananas. The best thing to do is freeze any excess ripe bananas that you have on hand, peel them, break them into quarters and place them in freezer bags, so that whenever you want to make a smoothie, your freezer is already well stocked.
Light coconut milk. I used light coconut milk in this coffee smoothie, but if you wanted to use a different non-dairy milk you could absolutely do it too, or go for full fat coconut milk if you want it to be really rich.
Almond butter. Almond butter and coffee are a great flavor match, but you could also substitute this for another nut butter if you want to switch things up. Peanut butter would work great too.
Instant espresso powder. My latest favorite thing is instant espresso powder, which I also used in our vegan iced coffee. I’m quite a fan! But really any instant coffee powder is going to work great here. I used 4 teaspoons which is quite strong, but I found it totally delicious. If you prefer it milder then 2 teaspoons would also be fine, and of course if you like it really strong, go wild!
Storing Instructions
This is a smoothie that you want to drink fairly soon, you want it nice and cold and you ideally want to drink it within an hour so that the bananas don’t oxidize.
It’s not something you’ll make in advance and then drink hours later. But when it’s freshly made, it’s a real treat.
If you do have leftovers then keep it stored in the fridge and enjoy within 1 day.

This was delicious, just as all the other recipes I have tried from your website! I have been hunting for a good vegan coffee creamer. The best I have found so far has been coconut milk powder or oat milk. But even with those, coffee has never been the same since I went vegan. Do you have an unsweetened creamer you recommend for coffee?

Would it keep ok in the fridge?
Alison Andrews says
I’m not a big fan of keeping smoothies because of the fresh ingredients that do oxidize, but that being said, yes it will keep a few hours in the fridge. 🙂

Thanks, I made less rather than try and store it. Is very yummy. Had to make an extra one without the coffee for the child, works well ???? thanks for the recipe

Hi! Can you use an actual cup of coffee to make a smoothie like this? I’d just prefer to use ingredients that I already have if possible! 🙂
Alison Andrews says
Sure, you could likely use a cup of coffee to replace the coconut milk and instant espresso powder and just blend in the other ingredients. If the quantity of liquid is the same, this should work fine. 🙂

Smooth, rich and flavourful!
